The experience begins upon arrival. Dramatic ceiling heights draw the eye upward while warm wood finishes and exposed beams emphasize the home's architectural volume. Beyond, expansive windows frame uninterrupted lake views, creating an immediate connection to the landscape and drawing visitors naturally through the home. The intention was to create a sense of openness, calm, and appreciation for the home's unique setting from the moment someone walks through the door.

The home's primary gathering spaces, including the kitchen, dining room, living room, and bar, were designed as a connected environment that encourages conversation, togetherness, and everyday living. Visual continuity between each space creates a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where family and guests can move easily from one activity to the next.

In contrast, the home's private spaces offer opportunities for retreat. The primary bedroom, wrapped in darker wood finishes across both walls and ceiling, creates a cocoon-like atmosphere intended for rest and restoration. The balance between openness and enclosure, energy and calm, became an important consideration throughout the project, ensuring the home could support both lively gatherings and quiet moments of reflection.

Connection to the landscape played an equally important role. Drawing inspiration from the colours, textures, and warmth of the surrounding lake and forest, Studio P layered natural materials, organic textures, and an earthy palette throughout the home. Pops of green within the kitchen and bar areas reinforce the connection to nature, while expansive windows transform the changing landscape into an integral part of the interior experience.

Particular attention was paid to the living and dining areas, where the dramatic A-frame ceiling and expansive wall of glazing frame panoramic lake views. Rather than competing with the scenery, the architecture and interiors work together to celebrate it, allowing the outdoors to become fully woven into everyday life.

The project's material story began with hickory flooring, selected early in the design process for its warmth, movement, and versatility. White oak, walnut, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and exposed beams build upon that foundation, creating continuity throughout the home while reinforcing its connection to nature. Layered wood tones bring richness and depth without overwhelming the spaces, demonstrating Studio P's belief that warmth is often achieved through thoughtful restraint rather than excess.

That philosophy is perhaps most evident in the kitchen, where Studio P intentionally moved away from conventional upper cabinetry. Highly functional base storage, integrated solutions, an appliance garage, and carefully edited display elements create a space that feels both practical and visually calm. Floating shelves and a single display cabinet provide opportunities for personality without disrupting the overall sense of clarity.

While the finished home appears calm and uncomplicated, many of its most impactful elements required significant planning and coordination. One example is the sculptural fireplace that anchors the main living area. Elevated on a bench-like base and extending upward to meet the home's peaked ceiling, the fireplace serves as both an architectural focal point and a study in proportion, materiality, and craftsmanship. Clad in natural leathered stone and carefully integrated with surrounding millwork and architectural elements, its seamless appearance is the result of extensive collaboration and attention to detail.

The same level of coordination informed the home's ceiling design. Working closely alongside the architect from the earliest stages of the project, Studio P helped develop the wood-clad ceilings and exposed beam details that define the main living areas. The intersections of multiple roof peaks required careful consideration to ensure the structural and aesthetic elements worked together seamlessly, reinforcing the home's sense of warmth and architectural cohesion.
