Alto-Flat Takes Centre Stage in Archilume Line-up at IDS Vancouver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Wednesday August 24, 2022  —  Vancouver, BC.    There may not be a brand looking forward to Vancouver’s Interior Design Show as much as local luminaire design studio, Archilume. The brand has been creating unique decorative lighting applications for the architecture and interior design community since 2013. Archilume launched three new luminaires and the team is excited to get feedback from their hometown design crowd. Armed with a new “language”, a new shape and a new booth, Archilume is set to light it up at this years’ design event.

The newest luminaire to join the international award-winning studio line is the Alto-Flat. With its strong structural shape, the Alto-Flat is akin to Archilume’s classic gem, the Alto. The original finishes at its base with a jewel-like transparent element reminiscent of a craftsman’s cut diamond. Alto-Flat introduces a flattened lens that dramatically changes the outline of the original luminaire. Its unadulterated, simplified suspended conical form speaks to a more minimalist architectural design language.

“The Alto-Flat shifts the luminaries’ silhouette to resonate with those seeking more minimalist forms, and a more subtle outline than its sister luminaire.” –  Saleem Khattak

The conical housing, fashioned from aircraft-grade machined aluminum in anodized finishes, conceals Archilume’s signature application of total internal reflection optics. The hidden LED technology produces a warm glow range from a full brightness of 3000 degrees Kelvin to a dimmable color temperature of 1800 degrees with 95 CRI. The lower portion of the Alto-Flat luminaire is a transparent acrylic lens with a frosted bottom, emitting a flattering, glare-free light. As with the entire lighting line at Archilume, the Alto-Flat features a micro-canopy allowing it to be installed as a soloist or grouped to form a unique choral arrangement of light.

“At Archilume, we encourage designers to play with light. For us, it begins in the studio. By changing an object’s delineation, we can change the design language to broaden the appeal of the Alto line to suit the unique decorative lighting needs of designers and their clients. “ – Saleem Khattak

In addition to Alto-Flat, Archilume will be showcasing their award-winning Ovolo. With its ultra-shallow, soft, organic form, Ovolo adds a new form and is Archilume’s first OLED technology pendant. Ovolo features a naturally diffuse human-centric OLED light source that provides a soft yet bright full-spectrum illumination resulting in an artificial light that resembles daylight. The quality of light mirrors the formal expression of the luminaire - soft, diffused, and comfortable.

The new booth is locally fabricated and is inherently green in nature featuring completely reusable components. The branded display cases are designed and produced by Archilume, while the demountable modular wall system is by molo. The booth, complete with integral signage, compresses into a single crate allowing for easy shipping and reuse. There is no waste with this display system. Working with local production facilities is a philosophical corner stone of Archilume’s environmental commitment.  For the first time in brand history, the booth will showcase a full range of Archilume luminaire forms.

“We’re incredibly excited to be returning to IDS in September. There’s a lot of design talent in this city, with projects spanning the globe and I’m excited to hear what everyone is up to.  As a brand leader, we are always excited to put our products in the hands of the design community.” – Saleem Khattak

Archilume invites Vancouver’s A&D community to visit their booth #641 at the upcoming Interior Design Show, September 22-25, 2022.
