GRAY Magazine Set to Award IDS Vancouver Exhibitors
Thursday, September 15, 2016 — Vancouver, BC GRAY, the design magazine for the Pacific Northwest and the largest media partner of IDS Vancouver, will launch the GRAY Awards in celebration of show participants’ creative approaches to exhibit design.
GRAY shines the light on Design Rebels this year with talks and events at the GRAY Conversations Stage and in its Aug/Sept issue, dedicated entirely to the topic. Continuing that focus, the GRAY editorial team will look for exhibit designs that embrace and highlight the spirit of rebelliousness that unites the innovators, forward-thinkers, and courageous risk-takers of the design industry. In their judging, the editors will pay close attention to the creativity, inventiveness, and overall “wow” factor of individual spaces, including unexpected uses of materials and engaging approaches to brand expression.
GRAY Award winners will be revealed Thursday, Sept. 22 during The Party at Opening Night. Winners will receive a one-of-a-kind award created by designer/maker Steven Pollock of Vancouver-based Woodstone Design. The celebration continues on Friday, Sept. 23 with a champagne toast and group portrait on the GRAY Conversations Stage.
Throughout the weekend, digital voting collected on graymag.com and social media channels will determine the winner of the People’s Choice award.
All exhibitors participating in IDS Vancouver will be automatically eligible for the GRAY Awards; there is no special entry procedure or fees.
The GRAY's program features rebel designers from across the globe. The space is designed by Amber Kingsnorth of MāK Interiors, a Vancouver-based, full service, creative interior design studio, and constructed by Enduring Construction. True to its theme, the space includes a special secretive feature designed by Electric Coffin, an art-forward Seattle-based design studio.
On-stage talent includes Alessandro Munge from Studio Munge in Toronto, James Cheng of James K.M. Cheng Architects in Vancouver, Steven McVoy of Steven Holl Architects in New York, as well as Oskar Peet from Eindhoven just to name a few.

About Steven Pollock From the outset, Pollock’s work has focused on a desire to create and work with his hands. Today he has become an internationally recognized artist who produces art, furniture and sculpture. His materials of choice are concrete, steel and wood. At the heart of Pollock’s work is a profound commitment to detail, artistic exploration and the latent potential of materials. This is achieved through rational inquiry, spirit of curiosity and continued experimentation. The majority of his work is privately commissioned in British Columbia, Canada and typically rests in high-profile architectural homes.
